How to Configure Redirects

Article Topics: Program, Tour, Sites

With this page you can add redirects, allowing you to redirect a specific percentage of traffic to a different site, tour, or program. First, you need to create your redirect locations, and then choose what will be sent through those redirects.

This feature also allows you to split-test your sites or tours, as you can now set up a site redirect with a specified percentage of traffic.

For more information on how to do Split Testing, view "Split A-B Testing."

Adding a Site Redirect

To add a site redirect, navigate to the Sites Admin and select the Site you wish to add the redirect to. Once there, navigate to the Redirects tab and click on the "Add Site Redirect" button at the top right of the page. You will be taken to the adding page, where you can choose either a new program or a new site and tour to redirect your site to.

You may also choose between redirecting to the tour URL or a completely new URL.

Options for this redirect include the following:

  • Maintain Query String - When enabled, NATS will pass any parameters within the URL to the URL being redirected to.

  • Disable Original Hit - Tells NATS to track the original hit before redirecting.

  • Track Redirect - Tells NATS to track the new hit after redirecting.

  • Enabled By Default - Set whether the redirect will be active by default.

  • Active For - The percentage of traffic that the redirect will be active for.

  • Redirect To - The URL that the surfer will be redirected to.

  • New Tour - The tour that the original tour will be redirected to.

  • New Site - The site that the original site will redirect to.

  • New Program - The new program that the surfer will be redirected to from the site.

From here you can choose what tour and program you would like to redirect to, as well as the new URL and tracking options. Click "Add Redirect" once you are done filling out the required fields.

Rules

Once you have configured your new redirect, you will be able to go back and add rules for this redirect. From here, you can configure if the redirect is active, as well as what tours, programs, affiliates, countries, and languages are affected by this redirect.

Hidden Tour/Site

You can also hide your second site or tour from affiliates so they can only grab link codes for the default tour. To do so, go to the Sites Admin and edit the tour you wish to hide link codes for. Under the Tour "Details" tab, check the "Hidden" option to hide that tour's link codes from affiliates.

When you have your tours or site redirects set up, you will be able to see the individual stats for each tour or site in the Reporting Admin. This can help with seeing which of your tours is better at converting referred surfers into members, as well as seeing what surfer/member behaviors are associated more with each tour or site.

Program Redirect

Setting up program redirects is slightly more complicated than site / tour redirects. In this case, NATS needs to add one entry for each tour and program at a time, and you will need to add rules for each of these entries. For example:

You have Site A with two tours: A1 and A2. You have two programs: P1 and P2. You want to redirect all traffic from P1 to P2 for all tours in site A. This is what you would set in the Add New Redirect table:

You can now click Add Redirect and NATS will add one entry for the tour and program. You will then need to do this for the second tour A2.

  • Redirect1 has A1 as Redirect Location and P2 as the New Program.

  • Redirect2 has A2 as Redirect Location and P2 as the New Program.

Program Rule

The next step is to add an enable rule for each redirect, added using the rules icon. Rules govern which tour, program, affiliate, country, and language to which this redirect applies. Following our example:

  • Redirect1 should have an enable rule with A1 as the tour, and P1 as the program.

  • Redirect2 should have an enable rule with A2 as the tour, and P1 as the program.

So now, all traffic from all tours in site A in P1 will be redirected to P2.

Mobile Redirects

The Mobile Only option is available when setting up a Target Rule for a redirect. However, if you set Mobile Only to "Yes" or "Any" and the Target Site has a Mobile Tour enabled, the current redirect will not take place and instead be defaulted to the Mobile Tour enabled for that Site. If you do not have a Mobile Tour selected in the Site Overview for the Target Site but still have Mobile Tours associated with that Site, your Redirect Rule Targets will function as normal.

You can learn more about Mobile Redirects on the Mobile Tours page.
