# Getting started with Billers

Billers are third-party payment processors that handle all membership and merchandise purchases. Using Billers allows you to outsource the transaction liability to a third party rather than bear the liability directly. 

## Determining the right Biller

You'll first need to determine the types of transactions you would like to accept. NATS supports a wide range of Billers that support multiple forms of payment.

## How to add a Biller to NATS

Once you've determined the best biller for your business, they will need to be added to your NATS install.

## Using Biller Steps

Due to the individual nature of Billers, NATS includes the Cascade feature, allowing you as the Site Operator the ability to provide visitors additional opportunities to complete a sale. This is done by sending them through a series of biller different billers whenever their transaction is denied. Cascades send potential customers through multiple billers to increase sign-up probability.
