# Transcoding

Transcoding is the process of converting a video into other resolutions and formats. The NATS CMS supports transcoding through the [CMS Worker](/content-management/processing/cms-worker.md). When you upload a source video, the Worker automatically creates a version of it for each [Format](/content-management/formats.md) you have configured, up to the resolution of the source file.

Transcoding is optional. You can turn it off with the **Disable CMS Video Transcoding** setting in the CMS section of the Configuration Admin, or skip it for individual videos by uploading your own exported versions named after your formats.
