# Navigation Bar Block

*Article Topics:* [*Blocks*](/getting-started/common-topics/blocks.md)*,* [*Design*](/getting-started/common-topics/design.md)

## Overview

The Navigation Bar Block adds a horizontal navigation bar to a page, helping visitors easily move through your site. It works together with your **Theme's Menu Settings,** where the actual navigation links are configured.

While the Navigation Bar Block controls the visual layout of the navigation, the Theme's Menu Settings define the actual menu items, such as links to CMS pages, static URLs, or the join form.

For a full breakdown of how to manage a Theme's Menus with Navigation Blocks, check out our [Menus & Navigation](/content-management/member-areas-and-tours/themes/menus-and-navigation.md) article.

## Navigation Bar Settings

### Design Tab

The Design tab provides settings for controlling the look and behavior of the navigation bar.

Under the **Navigation Layout** section, you can choose from several layout types:

* Display just a logo
* Display a logo and a single menu
* Display two menus with or without a logo

Once you've selected a layout that includes the addition of **menu items,** you'll also see options to:

* Choose which menu item within your theme to display
* Set the alignment of the menu item, whether that is left, center, or right.

These menus are configured in your Theme's [Menu](/content-management/member-areas-and-tours/themes.md#menus) tab. Any changes made in the Menu tab, like link order or destination, will automatically be adjusted on every block that uses that menu.

The **Header Logo** section allows you to:

* Enter a URL for your logo image.
* Set the page destination once a visitor clicks the logo.

This is especially useful if you would like the logo to act as a link to the landing page.

The **Mobile Setup** section lets you control how the navigation bar behaves on smaller screens. You can set the behavior of the navigation bar and the minimum screen size in pixels that the behavior will take place on.

## Menus & Navigation

As mentioned above, the Navigation List Block only controls the design and layout of the block, the links themselves that appear within the block are controlled by a Theme's Menu settings.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.toomuchmedia.com/content-management/member-areas-and-tours/themes/block-types/navigation-bar-block.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
