# Link Block

*Article Topics:* [*Blocks*](/getting-started/common-topics/blocks.md)*,* [*Design*](/getting-started/common-topics/design.md)

## Overview

The Link Block allows you to place a customizable link anywhere on a page. It can be used to send visitors to another page in your CMS or to an external URL. This block is commonly used for navigation or buttons.

{% embed url="<https://youtu.be/NMWboZjEFzs>" %}

## Link Block Settings

### Link Settings Tab

This tab controls the main functionality of the Link Block including the following:

The **Label** field sets the visible text for the link. This is what visitors will see and click on while the **Link Type** field defines the behavior of the where the link will direct visitors.

This can be anything from:

* A CMS page within your currently managed theme.
* The signup page.
* A static URL.
* A log out link.
* A Label.

The **Href Target** chooses whether the link opens in the same tab (\_self) or a new tab *(*\_blank).

The **Class and ID** fields allow you to assign custom class or IDs to the link, allowing you to apply customizability using CSS. A link can also be customized using **SVG Icons** in conjunction with a button. Be sure to use bootstrap "btn" as the CSS class to use a SVG Icons.

The **Additional Query Strings Params** field lets you add extra query string values to the link's URL. These can be used by other blocks on the destination page to control what content is displayed.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.toomuchmedia.com/content-management/member-areas-and-tours/themes/block-types/link-block.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
